Pig prices surrounded by a flat landscape

As turbulent as the market was at the beginning of autumn, the market is now so flat. The situation in the market changes little from week to week. Stable quotations are therefore a logical consequence. Across Europe, there are more than enough pigs, especially due to the growing pig population in Denmark and Spain. German slaughterhouses also find it easy to fill their hooks. The fact that there is somewhat less live supply from the Netherlands does not make a difference at this time. The advantage for Dutch slaughterhouses is that the lower export absorbs the contraction of the livestock population in the country. As a result, there is no scarcity here. Pigs are in good demand. Traders are generally satisfied with their deliveries. This is also reflected in the average slaughter weight, which shows a declining trend and is now below 99 kilograms. Usually, this time of year is characterized by an increasing movement. Meat prices stable A price-supporting factor from the meat market is that German slaughterhouses can again export pork to South Korea. This has not been possible since January when foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) was detected. In 2024, an average of about 4,000 tonnes was sent there monthly, mainly pork bellies. In the European meat market, the chain is working towards the festive month. This has led to a better demand for hams, but for now, this does not result in higher component prices, as shown in the weekly mutations of DCA. In general, buyers are not in a hurry yet. The fear of missing out is not that prevalent. DCA Market Price An unchanged pig price is currently the maximum achievable. The DCA Beursprijs 2.0 remains unchanged at €1.62 per kilogram for slaughtered pigs. The quotation for live pigs continues to move sideways at €1.25 per kilo.
