Dutch pig supply is declining

On the pig market, there is currently little excitement in terms of price movements. After a period of unrest at the beginning of autumn, stability is now what prevails. It is striking that the slaughter numbers in the Netherlands are declining against the seasonal trend. In August and September, the Dutch slaughter figures could reasonably keep pace with last year's numbers. Since the beginning of October, we have seen the slaughter figures decline, along with the average slaughter weights. This is clearly against the seasonal trend. This development cannot be seen separately from the stopping regulation in our country. The slaughter numbers may drop further in the coming weeks when all companies participating in the Lbv regulation have actually been fully processed. Easier to place This development makes it easy for pigs to be placed, something we already mentioned a few weeks ago. This is more a case of supply shortage than a demand for meat sales. Despite slight improvements in sales, this has not yet led to higher prices. This is also evident from the component prices from DCA which have remained the same this week. In addition to the tightening pig supply in the Netherlands, the European picture must be taken into account. Due to the increased animal numbers in Spain and Denmark, the overall supply is relatively ample. Germany is slaughtering stable numbers from week to week compared to last year. For now, the market seems to continue its stable course. Whether there will be a rise around Christmas is still very much in question. In that case, the meat market must come more to life, the still relatively strong euro does not help with that. DCA Market Price Based on the submissions, the DCA Market Price remains the same for the fourth week at €1.62 per kilo for the slaughtered pigs. The live quotation is moving sideways further at €1.25 per kilo.
