Pig market sees a stronger bottom

Now that calm has returned to the pig market, the mood is gradually becoming a bit friendlier. The supply in the Netherlands is being quickly absorbed now that the dark months are about to begin. The clock will be set back this weekend, which typically has a positive effect on the consumption of pork in Europe. During the autumn and winter months, consumption is usually at a higher level than in the (late) summer. However, for now, this does not provide a reason to believe that the market can rise to a higher level. Stability is currently the highest achievable for pig prices in Northwest Europe. Despite the price drop in recent weeks, slaughterhouses remain critical about the margins they can achieve. This is partly due to the challenging sales of by-products on the global market and the tariffs in China. No slaughter day cancellation Dutch slaughterhouses process between 270,000 and 280,000 pigs week by week. With regard to the cessation program, which has largely been implemented, these are quite significant numbers. A part of the decline is being offset by a structurally lower export of live pigs to Germany. On the internal German market, this decline is hardly noticeable, as the supply is quite ample. Slaughterhouses intend to slightly increase slaughter numbers in the coming weeks. Since All Saints' Day (November 1) falls on a weekend this year, this is not a disruption in the form of broken slaughter weeks. To ensure stability, this is a pleasant outcome of the planning. DCA Market Price All in all, a stable change fits best with the current market picture. Thus, the DCA Beursprijs 2.0 continues to move sideways at €1.62 per kilogram, while the price of live pigs remains unchanged at €1.25 .
