Mexico largest sales market for Brazilian chicken

The Brazilian export of chicken meat increased in volume in August 2025, as evidenced by figures from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Notably, Mexico is the largest market. The country has only recently started importing significant volumes of chicken meat from Brazil. The exports of chicken meat totaled 394,600 tons in August, an increase of 3.9% compared to August 2024, when 379,800 tons were shipped. However, the export revenue decreased by 11.9% to $699.4 million, compared to $793.6 million a year earlier. This is due to a sharp decline in the poultry meat price following the detection of avian influenza (AI) in the country. Several high-quality markets closed their markets to Brazilian poultry meat after the outbreak. For the period from January to August, exports amounted to 3.394 million tons, 1.1% less than the 3.432 million tons in the same period last year. The total revenue in the first eight months was $6.308 billion, a slight decrease of 0.2% compared to the $6.319 billion achieved in 2024. Mexico leads the wayIn the list of buyers, a significant shift occurred. Mexico was the main destination for Brazilian chicken meat in August, receiving 37,500 tons. Until recently, exports to the country were virtually nil, resulting in an increase of no less than 873.3% compared to a year earlier. The opportunity for this growth arose due to the outbreak of avian influenza, which led several countries to halt imports from Brazil in August. Mexico, on the other hand, chose to quickly resume trade to take advantage of the significant dip in Brazilian chicken meat prices. Other major buyers included traditional customers like the United Arab Emirates with 32,500 tons (a decrease of 16.9%) and Japan with 30,300 tons. That country imported 22.2% less. Saudi Arabia remained stable at 27,000 tons (+0.6%), while South Africa showed a decline of 8.4% with 25,700 tons. In Asia and the Middle East, positive results were particularly seen from the Philippines and South Korea: with exports of 19,700 tons (+27.2%) and 15,300 tons (+65.7%) respectively. Iraq also showed an increase. Exports to the country amounted to 12,700 tons (+15%). In Europe, the United Kingdom particularly stood out, more than doubling its purchases to 11,300 tons (+130.2%). Singapore rounded out the top ten with 10,900 tons, reflecting a growth of 14% compared to August 2024. Export from Sao Paulo grows significantlyIn August 2025, Paraná was the largest export state for chicken meat, with a volume of 158,700 tons, a decrease of 1.6% compared to last year. Santa Catarina followed with 89,700 tons and a growth of 6.5%, while Rio Grande do Sul exported 44,100 tons, reflecting an increase of 16.6%. São Paulo and Goiás also made strong contributions to the export figures. São Paulo reached an export volume of 24,500 tons, an increase of 3%, and Goiás showed the strongest growth with 21,500 tons, an increase of 20.8% compared to the same month in 2024.
