Pork duty China: highest tariff for Vion

China is going to impose significant import duties on pork from the European Union. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced this today (Friday, September 5). The tariffs are the result of a long-running anti-dumping investigation by the Chinese authorities. Vion faces the highest tariff among Dutch pork slaughterhouses. The anti-dumping investigation started in June 2024. The publication from the Chinese ministry shows that Vion from the Dutch slaughterhouses is facing the highest tariffs imposed. China has made a distinction between companies that have cooperated with the anti-dumping investigation during this period and those that did not. For companies not listed on the list provided by the Ministry of Commerce, a tariff of 62.4% will apply. All major Dutch processors can be found on the list and will face lower tariffs. Lower tariffs for Westfort, Compaxo, and Van Rooi Meat For imported meat from the Vion locations in Boxtel, Groenlo, and Apeldoorn, a tariff of 32.7% will apply. Westfort, Compaxo, and Van Rooi Meat are also on the list and will face tariffs of 20%. Danish Crown will face tariffs of 31.3%. The tariffs come into effect on September 10. European pork producers managed to slightly increase the exported volumes after years of decline this year. Until June, 2.13 million tons of pork and by-products were sent to China.
