Brazilian pork export breaks pattern and declines

The Brazilian pig market broke the growth pattern in July, showing a clear decline for the first time since March 2024. Two markets in particular stood out negatively. However, the export still increased over the first seven months of this year. In July 2025, Brazilian pork exports fell to 126,800 tons, a decrease of 8.3% compared to July 2024 when 138,300 tons were exported. Despite the lower volumes, the export value slightly increased, from $309.4 million last year to $316.1 million this year, a rise of 2.2%. Over the first seven months of 2025, however, exports continued to grow. A total of 848,800 tons of pork was exported, an increase of 12.9% compared to the same period in 2024 (752,100 tons). The revenues grew even more significantly, from $1.609 billion last year to $2.039 billion this year, an increase of 26.7%. Philippines main export market The declines occurred entirely in Asia. Notably, China with 11,900 tons (-39.4%) and Japan with 9,200 tons (-18.9%) showed significant declines. Singapore and Hong Kong also both fell to 6,100 tons, respectively -45.7% and -42.6%. However, the Philippines remained the main export market for Brazilian pork in July 2025. Due to ongoing outbreaks of African Swine Fever, exports there even increased, reaching 31,500 tons, a rise of 15.8% compared to July 2024 (27,200 tons). Other important destinations included Chile with 14,500 tons, a strong increase of 38.2%, and Vietnam with 6,700 tons (+20.5%). Mexico also showed growth with 6,100 tons (+8.8%), followed by Uruguay with 5,300 tons (+6.7%). Notably, Argentina imported 3,200 tons, an increase of no less than 722.1% compared to July 2024. Significant differences by region Santa Catarina, the largest Brazilian export state for pork, exported 64,500 tons in July 2025, a decrease of 14.5% compared to the same month last year. Rio Grande do Sul also showed a decline with 29,300 tons (-3%). Parana, on the other hand, recorded slight growth with 18,800 tons (+1.9%), as did Minas Gerais with 3,400 tons (+4.1%). Mato Grosso experienced the sharpest decline, with 2,800 tons (-27.3%).
