Strong price increase for seed potato growers HZPC

HZPC Holland announced last night (March 3) that the forecast price for seed potatoes from the 2024 harvest has been set at €61.50 per 100 kilos. This represents an increase of over 15% compared to the final price of the 2023 harvest. The final payment price is expected by the end of June. Despite heavy rainfall, such as in Zeeland, North Holland, and the northern part of Groningen, the harvest was generally good with high demand for HZPC varieties. 'Historically high price' Martin Jansen Klomp, Benelux regional manager, speaks of a historically high payment price: The forecast price of €61.50 shows that another step up has been taken. This is important, especially considering the risks growers face due to a wet spring and high disease pressure during the growing season. He further emphasizes that a higher payment price is necessary to compensate for these risks. CEO Hans Huistra adds that the higher price makes the cultivation of seed potatoes more attractive, not only in the Netherlands but also internationally. In many countries, Dutch seed potatoes are used for potato cultivation. A better price not only supports our growers but also strengthens our position globally, Huistra states. Room for expansion HZPC expects, partly due to the strong demand for their varieties and the satisfactory price level, a positive outcome for all involved. The company sees room for expanding the acreage and is in discussions with growers about this. Our varieties are well-received in the market, and thanks to the high yields, we can achieve further growth, says Jansen Klomp.
