Royal A-ware expands production at Heerenveen dairy plant with Albert Heijn quark and skyr
Albert Heijn's private-label quark and skyr will now be produced on a new protein production line at Royal A-ware's facility in Heerenveen. The move responds to the growing popularity of these products and also shortens the transport distance between the factory and supermarkets, Albert Heijn reports.
Until now, the Heerenveen facility has mainly produced cheese and cream. A-ware's yoghurts and drinking dairy products have mainly been produced in Coevorden and Zonhoven in Belgium.
The facility in Heerenveen will not only produce private-label quark and skyr, but a larger share of the product range will also be covered by the Beter voor Natuur & Boer (Better for Nature & Farmer) programme.
By moving production to Heerenveen, the number of transport kilometres will also be significantly reduced. According to Albert Heijn, this is expected to save around forty truck journeys per week. This amounts to a reduction of more than 1 million truck kilometres a year. The upgraded factory also increases production capacity.
