European pig and pork prices enter a stagnation phase

The DCA EU-5 Piglet Price Index fell to €29.06 per piglet in week 40, just a few cents lower than the previous week (€29.59 per piglet), with the DCA EU-5 Pork Index settling at €1.50 per kg. Based on the week's trend, both the piglet and slaughter pig markets are entering a phase of relative stagnation. Steady-to-low European carcass prices reflect a broader global environment in which declining U.S. lean hog futures, driven by low domestic demand and high global supply, create additional headwinds for international trade.
