Fage International faces further delay in starting Dutch operations

Fage International, the Greek yoghurt producer that wants to build a factory near Hoogeveen, now expects to start operations in the Netherlands only at the end of 2030, according to its latest forecast. However, the company does not appear to be suffering from the delay. Revenue and profit continue to exceed expectations, particularly thanks to the European market.According to its annual figures for 2025, the company recorded revenue of $898.2 million (currently equivalent to €788 million). This was 19.1% more than a year earlier. The largest share of this revenue ($531.8 million) was generated in the US, with the remaining $366.4 million coming from Europe. In Europe, however, revenue increased by 30.9%, Fage reports. The company performed particularly well in the British market, where revenue rose by 49.2% last year. The company's high-protein yoghurts are selling extremely well.Revenue alone, of course, does not tell the whole story, but Fage operates with a very healthy margin. Last year, its gross margin stood at 52%, resulting in a gross profit of $466.7 million. Net profit amounted to $208 million, significantly more than the $112.3 million recorded a year earlier.Fage does not perform this well every year, but in recent years the company has consistently reported figures that almost every other food company would envy. The fact that it also has no net debt perhaps says something about the strength of the company as well.PermitThe planned factory near Hoogeveen can move forward as far as the province of Drenthe is concerned, as a nature permit has been issued. However, the permit will be challenged again, creating further uncertainty. Still, the Greek yoghurt producer is pressing ahead and adjusting its plans to meet government requirements. For now, the company's business outlook remains bright.
