Growth in milk supply in the Netherlands disappears

The growth of Dutch milk supply has almost completely disappeared in August on an annual basis. Dutch dairy producers collected 1,169,043 tons of milk last month. Compared with the same month last year, that is an increase of 0.68%. That means the growth has almost disappeared. In July the lead was still 3% and in June 3.5%. Milk supply did increase last year in summer as a result of a calving cycle disrupted by bluetongue. The levels in the milk are slightly higher in 2026, with an average fat percentage of 4.36% compared with 4.32% in 2025. Meanwhile, milk supply is undergoing a seasonal decline. Daily production averaged 37,722 tons in August, compared with 38,541 tons in July. Spot market recovers The milk surplus that the Netherlands experienced in spring and early summer is now a thing of the past. On the spot market, prices rose in August to the level of the payout prices, according to the DCA benchmark for raw milk in the Netherlands. A year ago, the spot market fell sharply as a result of the growing milk supply.
