Prices are cautiously choosing an upward trend again

In the past week, some potatoes from the 2025 harvest were still sold to the flakes industry. That means the marketing of the old harvest has now nearly come to an end. Meanwhile, a significant amount of work has also been done in processing the early fries varieties, so the factories can gradually begin with the main harvest. There is not much hurry, partly because it is not yet entirely clear how the main harvest is doing. Growth has now largely come to a stop, as also shown by the trial digs of potato processor Aviko. Moreover, it remains unclear what the quality will be, for example with regard to secondary growth and the effect of MH spray applications. In general, there are still only a few transactions now. In part due to contract work, demand from the processing industry is small. But reactions from growers show that the factories want to receive everything that is available. There is also room for lower quality. On the other hand, there is also very little supply. Supply and demand are therefore keeping each other fairly in balance. In Belgium, the quotation committees Viaverda/Fiwap and Belgapom consistently value the early potatoes at €20 per 100 kilos. There is still no gap between them. The mood in Belgium is therefore described as stable. In France, the picture is little or no different. The last stocks of contracted early potatoes are heading to the factory. Remaining lots that are included are being settled at a price level of €20 to €22 per 100 kilos. Small increases in Germany Germany also showed a stable picture in recent weeks. Now some movement seems to be coming. Reka-Rheinland is posting small increases after five sluggish weeks. For now, we have to make do with an increase of €0.50 to €22.50 for early processing potatoes, €24.50 for Zorba's and €26.50 for Innovator. It should be noted that the minimum prices for these varieties did not rise in the past week.
