DCA Benchmarks: Protein commentary week 37

The DCA benchmark prices for WPC80 and WPI90 are largely stable this week. The WPC80 benchmark is in fact a little bit higher, but is within the weekly oscillation margin. This is however not all that has to be said about especially the WPC80 benchmark.On the one hand the WPC80 and also WPI90 prices from the big producers supplying the big food companies remain relatively stable. WPC80 for this segment is still doing €27000 to €28000 per tonne. The producers in this segment are mostly also still sold out well in advance. On the other hand there is also a market for WPC80 and other high protein whey products where trade is taking place at lower price levels, down to €23000 and even €22000 a tonne. Buyers on this market are looking quality, but also for affordability. They need proteins for gyms and for all kinds of retail outlets. They see MPC85 and Miscellar Casein also as alternatives or as ingredients for blends.Meanwhile, with demand growing MPC85 is steadily getting more expensive and sometimes selling at prices around €15000. Miscellar Casein is another dairy deriven alternative and also just a bit cheaper. Nowadays it sells for €13000 to €14000 a tonne.Maybe the prices of these products will edge closer to eachother in the coming weeks, but maybe the whey-derived high protein products will also bounce back up. In the US demand for WPI90 has grown in the last couple of weeks, even although this is the most expensive high protein dairy 'commodity' and WPC80 has been more in demand this year. However, WPC80 has weakenend in the US since the last couple of weeks.
