Onion exports run slightly quieter in week 33

The second week of August was considerably quieter for Dutch onion exports than the week before. This does not alter the fact that exports are still good. Preliminary figures from KCB and GroentenFruit Huis show that in week 33 a total of just over 25,000 tons were exported. That is 10,000 tons less than the week before. However, that was a week with exceptionally large exports for the time of year. Total exports through week 33 amount to 156,000 tons. That is by far the largest export volume ever. The previous record dates from 2022, when just over 150,000 tons were exported in the same period. In week 33, Ivory Coast was the main destination for Dutch onions with 5,400 tons. Just over 4,500 tons were shipped to Senegal in that week. The week before that was nearly 12,300 tons. The timing of ships departing is quite decisive in these export figures for how large the weekly export turns out to be. Furthermore, sales to Great Britain continue at a decent pace with 2,500 tons in week 33. Belgium, Nicaragua and Sierra Leone are also among the larger buyers in week 33. That means we have covered the destinations that import more than 1,000 tons in this week. So it is not only Senegal that has depressed the export figure, exports to other destinations were also somewhat quieter.
