FrieslandCampina upgrades whey processing

FrieslandCampina has completed two major investment projects in Gerkesklooster. Whey processing has been optimised and the cheese factory has been equipped with a new milk intake facility. The new milk intake facility ensures shorter and more efficient liquid flows at the site. This makes operations more efficient and requires less energy and water. The new installation also leads to lower maintenance costs. According to the dairy processor, an important advantage is that more recycled water can be used, reducing the need for tap water. In addition, the optimisation of whey processing has been completed. As a result, the production site can now supply high-quality whey that is suitable for use in infant formula. The whey is supplied from Gerkesklooster to the production site in Borculo, where it is further processed. With the completion of both projects, Gerkesklooster is once again better equipped for the future. Moreover, the two projects complement each other. The new milk intake facility provides greater efficiency and sustainability, while the improved whey processing allows us to make even better use of our milk streams, said Sibble Jan Broos, Plant Director at FrieslandCampina Gerkesklooster.
