Buyers tap the brakes on potato prices

Where in the Netherlands there was still a slight increase in potato prices, abroad the brakes are being applied. Belgium and Germany are now holding on to the price level that was already recorded at the end of last week. In the Netherlands, Fontanes were traded for €25 and Innovators for €28 per 100 kilos ex field. That puts prices at the upper end of the quotation at the beginning of this week or just above it. Still, deals are also being made at lower levels. For example, Fontanes were sold today for €21 per 100 kilos. That price level is clearly below the PotatoNL quotation of €22,50 to €25 at the beginning of this week. In Belgium, traders and processors say they are doing business at a clearly lower level. Potatoes from the 2025 harvest are still being bought there for €15 per 100 kilos. Early varieties from the new harvest are reaching trade hands for €20 per 100 kilos according to Belgapom. Belgapom therefore speaks of a stable market. Earlier this week, Viaverda and Fiwap were somewhat more optimistic with prices of €20 to €25 per 100 kilos for the early potatoes. For old Fontanes, mainly €20 per 100 kilos was paid according to the quotation committee of the research institutes. France is somewhat on the same line as Viaverda and Fiwap. The French RNM quotes Fontanes at €17,50 per 100 kilos, with the same price range of €15 to €20 per 100 kilos as Viaverda and Fiwap. Early potatoes are scarce there as well as elsewhere. As a result, prices in France are at €20 to €23 per 100 kilos. Potatoes suitable for fresh fries there fetch around €20 to €25 per 100 kilos. Germany follows Belgapom In Germany, Reka Rheinland follows the example of Belgapom. It should be noted, however, that prices in Germany are one step higher than those of Belgapom. But the trend is the same: prices remain unchanged compared with last week. Early processing potatoes are quoted by Reka at €22 per 100 kilos. For its own members, the producer organization applies a minimum price of €21,50 per 100 kilos over the past week. For the Zorba variety, this price is €2 higher, which means the quotation for this variety also remains equal to the €24 of last week. German buyers pay €2 more again for Innovators than for Zorba. The fast food variety therefore remains at €26 per 100 kilos.
