Aviko sampling comes out slightly higher than in 2018

The first test harvest of which Aviko Potato publishes the results is slightly higher than in 2018. The size remains clearly behind previous years, although that is probably mainly related to a relatively large number of tubers per plant. Aviko Potato has published the first results of its weekly sampling of Dutch processing potatoes. In week 32, the average yield comes to about 40 tonnes gross per hectare. From Aviko's graph, it appears that the yield increased by about 8 tonnes per hectare between week 30 and 32. Compared with the results over the past eight years, there are five years in which the yields were better at this point and three years in which fewer kilos of potatoes were in the ridge. That means this year's yields are below average. rmally, yields in week 32 are somewhat above 40 tonnes in Aviko's test harvests, as can be seen from the graph. Last year, yields in the same week were already well above 55 tonnes in the measurements of the potato processor. The 2019 harvest ultimately recorded the highest yield at the end of Aviko's test harvests. In that year, the yields at the end came to just above 65 tonnes. In week 32, the test harvest results in that year came to about 42.5 tonnes per hectare. The same growth as in that year is not expected now, because drought and heat are strongly slowing growth. Moreover, many crops have already matured far along. The tubers are meanwhile becoming larger. The share 50 millimeter and up amounts in week 32 to about 55%, compared with about 47% a week earlier and 43% in week 30. That means the size remains clearly behind other years. Only in 2023 were the potatoes even finer, but that was clearly due at the time to the very late start of the growing season. In previous years, the size percentage in week 32 fluctuated from 60% in 2018 to 85% in 2025. The underwater weight, on the other hand, is relatively high. According to the graph, it comes to just under 380 grams, compared with about 367 grams in week 30. With several more weeks of drought ahead, a further substantial increase in underwater weight seems likely. Early varieties Viaverda and Inagro in Belgium published results this week from eight practice fields of Amora. On 3 August, after an average of 118 growing days, the gross yield came to 43 tonnes per hectare. The differences are large: the fields vary from 36 to 52 tonnes per hectare. Many extra kilos are no longer expected there. The Amora fields are at least 70% matured and some crops have already completely died off. Growth was also limited in the twelve days preceding the latest sampling. Of the 43 tonnes gross yield, 36 tonnes, or 83%, is in the size fraction above 50 millimeters. The average final yield of Amora in previous years was also around 43 tonnes per hectare, of which 34 tonnes were above 50 millimeters. Viaverda therefore concludes that the fields followed collectively come out at the long-term average. Qualitatively, Amora is also doing reasonably well. The average underwater weight is 394 grams and all eight fields are above the standard of 360 grams. The fry color is rated as good to very good.
