Piglet prices remain at a steady floor in Week 31

The European piglet market is showing a stabilizing trend after the decline that dominated in the previous weeks. The market has reached a tentative turning point, as prices in Week 30 remain steady. The DCA EU-5 Piglet Price Index remained at €28.59 per piglet in Week 31.Across the pork market, benchmark slaughter values have also reached still quotations. The DCA EU-6 Live Pig Price Index increased by one cent to €1.14 per kg from €1.13 in Week 30, while the DCA EU-6 Pork Carcass Price Index increased by 2 cents to €1.46 per kg after the drop seen since Week 22 (€1.54 per kg).In the Netherlands, piglet prices have remained unchanged for the following week. Demand for piglets remains cautious. Traders are moving prices between €24 and €32 per piglet depending on group size, health and genetics, and destination. The previous transport restrictions due to high summer temperatures in Spain have triggered transport delays and have paused trade flow since Spanish buyers are essential for maintaining liquidity in a slow market. The DCA Best Piglet Price remains at €26 per piglet. Market expectations suggest this steady pricing pattern will continue over the coming week as it is typical for this time of the year. Prices in almost all major producing nations held flat, with only Denmark fluctuating.Even though the piglet prices have been stabilizing, European pig production remains high. In the first four months of 2026, EU pork production was up 2.2% Y-o-Y, with slaughters up 1.7%, keeping an ample pig number for the market.With the ongoing African Swine Fever across Catalonia’s wild boars, Spanish exports continue to be restricted in third countries. This redirects more product onto the internal European market, intensifying competition for piglet and pork suppliers in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and France.
