DCA Benchmarks: Cheese market commentary week 32

Cheese markets remained quiet in week 32 (August 6), with subdued trading activity and mixed price movements across benchmarks. Foiled cheeses led the gains, particularly Gouda, while Mozzarella softened on an increased but continued to attract a stronger buying interest.Foiled cheese benchmarks observed consistent gains, with Gouda increasing to €3,300, 2.5% up compared to the previous week and the highest increase in the segment. In parallel, Edam increased by 1.7% to €3,270 and Frau Antje by 0.7% to €3,390. In contrast, Mozzarella declined by 1.3% week-over-week to €3,485, Slightly closing the gap with Gouda. More supply of Mozzarella Despite this decline, Mozzarella remains amongst the most attractive product in the segment, with contributors recognizing a stronger buying interest amid the quiet sentiment of the holiday period.The Cheddar complex also observed an increase between 1.4% and 1.5% compared to the previous week, reaching €3,340 in curd and €3,425 in Mild. At the same time, Emmentaler declined by 0.6% to €3,935. Both Cheddar and Emmentaler observed a moderate increase over the previous month, ranging from 0.9% to 3%, although remaining more than 23% below the previous year’s levels. Contributors highlighted a quiet and stable cheese market with limited trading activity. More availability of Mozzarella was observed, particularly from France, was reported to be weighing on prices, although demand for Mozzarella was described as relatively stronger than for other cheese categories. Demand is also expected to increase after the holiday period, while stocks of natural ripened cheese remain abundant.
