Piglet price records ninth consecutive decline

The demand for piglets remains subdued. The high temperatures are not helping either. Due to the lower pig prices, demand for piglets has been under pressure for months. A bottom in the market is getting closer, but seems not to have been reached yet. Based on the submissions, the DCA BestPigletPrice is falling this week by €2,50 to €32 per piglet. After the spring recovery, the BPP is therefore almost back to where it started. At the beginning of this year, the quotation stood €0,50 lower than the current level. Whether the price will slide further in the coming weeks remains to be seen. On the one hand, there are signals that the market can stabilize. On the other hand, it cannot be ruled out that pig prices will still face a correction in the coming weeks. For now, the DCA Beursprijs remains unchanged. The sales of piglets are meanwhile proceeding with difficulty. Due to the high temperatures, export to Spain is virtually impossible, traders say. As a result, even more piglets are being offered on the domestic market, where sales opportunities are limited. Prices for free piglets are therefore under heavy pressure, it is said.
