Sword of Damocles hangs over the pig market

The pig price is heading for a new reduction in a short time. In Germany there is a strong chance of price pressure to be seen, which will probably also have an impact in the Netherlands. For the meagre confidence that pig producers still have, this would be an extremely unfavourable development. Both the DCA Beurs Mutation Price and the DCA BestPigletPrice are moving down. Everything points to the German pig price (VEZG) heading for a new reduction of perhaps €0.10 per kilo. The signs are poor. Tönnies already reduced the sow price by €0.10 to €0.53 per kilo, the lowest level since 2022. According to the meat company, supply exceeds the very weak demand for sow meat. Dutch traders who supply Germany say they are only allowed to deliver again after Wednesday. German slaughterhouses are holding off for the start of this week and only want the pigs again once the new price is applied. Then you can assume that the price will fall sharply, according to one trader. DCA Beurs Mutation Price If Germany goes down on Wednesday, you can be certain that Dutch slaughterhouses will also reduce prices. After all, they compete in the same crowded European meat market, where meat prices are under pressure. Based on the quotes, the DCA Beurs Mutation Price falls by €0.03 per kilo. A month ago pig prices already fell sharply, but apparently that is not yet the end of it. Remarkably, pig prices normally have upside potential at this time of year on the calendar. After all, the broken slaughter weeks are behind us and the summer holidays have not yet started. This year none of that seems to help. Fragile piglet market With the current market outlook, the piglet price can almost not work towards a bottom. The surplus is not very large in itself, but buyers are absent, traders say. There is little to be earned from trade. collection export batches for Spain yield €35 and a bit. For regular loads, ten euros more is paid. Based on the quotes, the DCA BestPigletPrice falls by €2 this week to €38.50 per piglet. Reports can be heard that the German piglet price (VEZG) may possibly fall by €7 at the end of this week, after €4 has already been taken off.
