EU rapeseed market sees stocks decline

The European Commission estimates this year’s rapeseed harvest in the European Union at 20.85 million tons. This estimate is slightly higher than the estimate at the end of April. The largest producer in the EU is France, with an estimated production of 5 million tons this year. This amount is 8.9% larger than in 2025. Germany follows with 4.17 million tons, 4.9% more than in 2025. A slight increase in production is expected in Poland, to 3.66 million tons. The main differences compared with last year stem from shifts in acreage. Cultivation has expanded in France and Germany. In Lithuania, Latvia and Scandinavia, growers sowed less and this is clearly reflected in the production estimates. As for hectare yields, there are still few differences. However, the European Commission expects lower yields in Belgium and Luxembourg, while slightly higher yields are expected in Slovenia than in 2025. In the Netherlands, the Commission says the acreage is about 5% smaller than last year. In addition, the crops are just short of last year’s level, according to the Commission. For now, the estimate for the Netherlands stands at 3.6 tons per hectare. Total production in the EU is 3.3% higher than in 2025 based on current estimates. At the same time, consumption is also growing this year. Despite an increase in imports, stocks are declining slightly.
