Cono keeps milk price unchanged for March

Cono Cheese Makers is keeping the milk price unchanged for March. This means the cooperative from Beemster remains the only processor in the DCA Farmgate Milk Price Calculator above the threshold of €40 per 100 kilos. The base payment price at the standard components and an annual delivery of 1 million kilos comes to €40.14 per 100 kilos. This means Cono is once again leading in March, with a clear lead of almost €1.50 over number 2. Including premiums, the payment price can rise to a maximum of €46.14 per 100 kilos. The actual milk price, as Cono itself communicates it, comes to €44.34. It is striking that the cooperative has clearly recovered with the milk price. Half a year ago Cono was still at the bottom of the comparison. Focus on brand cheese The explanation lies in the strategic direction. Cono is less dependent on the volatile commodity market and is strongly focusing on brand cheese. The market generally has more stable prices and is less sensitive to sharp declines, such as those seen since last summer. In a rapidly rising market this works the other way around and branded cheeses sometimes lag behind a little. High whey powder prices In addition, Cono is benefiting from the strong price development of whey powder. The DCA Market Intelligence benchmark has risen by almost 50% since the turn of the year to above €1,500 per tonne, the highest level in four years. A peak in the market also does not yet seem to have been reached.
