DCA benchmarks: Liquids commentary week 14

Most liquid dairy benchmarks from DCA show an upward movement this week, except for raw milk in the Netherlands.Prices have been historically low, which creates room for increases. Part of the price rise is also linked to the fact that trading is no longer disrupted by Easter after Monday. However, logistics remain difficult, and higher diesel surcharges are pushing prices up. This is limiting demand for products such as skimmed milk.Skimmed milk and whey concentrate There is stronger demand for concentrates. The price of skimmed milk concentrate increased sharply by €355 to €1,170 per tonne. Compared to milk powder, this still offers a favourable return, which supports demand, especially from Eastern Europe. Whey concentrate prices also increased for the same reason, but less strongly, rising by €120 to €935 per tonne. This has widened the price gap again. Demand for raw milk on the spot market is moderate. There is some buying interest at lower price levels, but overall supply is higher than demand. Prices are therefore moving mostly sideways. The Dutch benchmark decreased by €0.50 to €12.50 per 100 kilo, while the North German benchmark increased by €1 to €14.50 per 100 kilo.
