Piglet prices are heading towards the spring peak

The demand for piglets remains strong, but higher bids in the free market are lacking. As a result, the quotations are approaching a ceiling that has historically always been reached at this time of year. The pig price does not rise further before Easter, after the market flattened last week. The DCA BestPigletPrice increases by €0.50 this week to €57.50 per piglet. The spring rise began in week 5 with this change and seems to be coming to an end. It is not immediately likely that the piglet prices will rise further in the coming weeks around Easter. The placement space then becomes smaller and seasonally more piglets are expected. Furthermore, the trade to Spain in the free market continues at unchanged prices. For one dealer, the ceiling in the piglet market should have been reached last week after the pig prices flattened. Other dealers believe that the quotations should still make a small step. This is partly pointed out by the rising German piglet price and bonuses that sometimes also increase. The German VEZG quotation for piglets rises this week by €2 to €58 per piglet. Not everyone in the market finds this increase logically explainable, as the pig price did not rise further last week. The higher German price also reacts to the Dutch market, even though our country has its own piglet market. Flat pig price Little movement is expected in the pig market before Easter. The DCA Beurs Mutatieprijs thus remains unchanged. The demand for pigs is still good this week, but it will be different in the following weeks as the meat industry slows down. It is difficult to estimate how the market will be after Easter. Much depends on the weather. In the Netherlands, it seems likely that the supply will further dry up, but in countries like Denmark and Spain, there are still sufficient pigs relative to the demand.
