More EU wheat goes into feed, exports decline slightly

The new Wasde report from the US Department USDA contains small changes this month. For wheat in the European Union, it stands out that more grain is allocated to animal feed and that the export figure is expected to decline slightly. In the new edition of the monthly Wasde report, wheat production in the EU for the 2025/2026 season is maintained at 144 million tons. It is expected that 51 million tons will go into animal feed. This amount has been increased by 1 million tons compared to last month. The EU's export of wheat is proceeding slower than previously anticipated. Therefore, the export forecast for wheat this month is lowered by 1 million tons to 30.5 million tons. Nevertheless, this export remains higher than last season when just under 28 million tons were exported from the EU. Compared to 2023/24, the export is significantly smaller, as 38 million tons of wheat went to third countries in that season. On the production side, there are only three adjustments for wheat worldwide this month. Where the Australian statistics bureau Abares slightly increased the wheat harvest forecast last week in Australia to 36 million tons, the USDA comes out at the same outcome after a reduction of 1 million tons. USDA has higher harvest forecasts this month in Ukraine and Kazakhstan. The yield forecast for wheat in Ukraine rises by 1 million tons to 24 million tons. In Kazakhstan, the production expectation increases by 430,000 tons to 19.33 million tons. Globally, wheat production this season is now at 842 million tons, which is barely higher than last month. However, it represents a strong increase compared to last season when the harvest was around 800 million tons.
