McCain slashes farm-gate price for Fontane

Potato processor McCain lowers the farm-gate price for the variety Fontane by €4.75 to €12.50 per 100 kilograms. This brings the price for these potatoes down to the level of the 2022 harvest. For three years, a higher price has been paid. The contract prices for Fontane potatoes from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 harvests were at or just above €17 per 100 kilograms, with the peak in 2024 at €17.50 per 100 kilograms. For Fontanes from storage, McCain has reduced the contract prices by about €4.50 per 100 kilograms. In week 17, the contract price now stands at €22.80 per 100 kilograms. In the past two years, a price of €27.30 per 100 kilograms was paid for delivery in the last week of April. In 2023, that price was €25 per 100 kilograms. We see the same trend for delivery in June. The prices there are about €2 above those of late April. McCain does not publicly disclose prices. The prices mentioned here come from growers. The prices from Innovators are still missing. Here is a call to especially share those with the editorial team. For the variety Markies, McCain pays a price of €14 per 100 kilograms at the farm gate, which is €1.50 more than for Fontane. At the end of April, the price for this variety is €24.10 per 100 kilograms and at the end of June €26.25 per 100 kilograms. The price difference compared to Fontane thus drops to €1.30 at the end of April, only to increase again to €1.50 per 100 kilograms by the end of June.
