Egg prices already well above Easter 2025 levels

The Northern European egg prices are rising sharply again. This is the result of a historically large shortage. Due to a very strong demand, the price is now above the level around Easter last year. The pace at which the egg price is rising is increasing again. In the last two weeks, prices have increased by 45 cents from €19.20 to €19.65 per 100 pieces. In the two weeks prior, the price of eggs rose by 15 cents. The price is now 22.8% above the level of the same week last year. Although the rally towards Easter has only just begun, the price is already 5.1% above the level of the peak period last year. The historical shortage in the egg market remains clearly visible. In Northern Europe, packing stations are working hard to fulfill orders. The demand is already very strong for this time of year. Typically, prices slowly increase during this time of year as the market prepares for Easter. During that period, the demand for table eggs peaks clearly, but the industrial demand for baked goods is also strong during this time. This year, the demand for direct consumption is already significantly stronger than expected. This has been the case for the past few months, but this year the increase in demand is even stronger, putting further pressure on the markets. Additionally, avian influenza is causing considerable disruption in the market this year. Unlike last year, the effects are not marginal. Egg price rises In Germany, the egg price is 10 cents higher and has even reached a record level. The price is set at €19.75 per kilogram. As the price suggests, the stronger demand in Germany is even more pronounced than in the Netherlands. In the country, packing stations now often have to refuse orders because they cannot be fulfilled. In contrast to, for example, France, supermarkets are still stocked. In the country, it is noted that there is currently no relief in sight.
