Momentum of Brazilian pork export continues

The Brazilian export of pork reached a record level in January. The country is benefiting from the pig fever in the Philippines and the export to Japan continues to rise. Meanwhile, the decline in exports to China and Hong Kong also continues. In total, 116,300 tons were shipped, an increase of 9.7% compared to the 106,000 tons in the same month last year. A record was also noted in value. The export revenues amounted to $270.2 million, an increase of 13.6% compared to January last year, when the revenues were $238 million. Thus, January is not only the best start of the year ever for the sector in terms of volume, but also in terms of sales. Shift to new markets The Philippines were the largest importer of Brazilian pork in January. The country imported 37,400 tons, an increase of 91% year-on-year. The increase is the result of the outbreak of pig fever in the country, which forced it to rely on significant imports. Japan followed with 12,900 tons (+58%). The advance of the Brazilian market in the country is clearly continuing, which likely comes at the expense of the European and American positions, as in previous years. Figures behind this development are not yet available. In contrast, there was a decline in exports to some traditional markets. Hong Kong imported 8,800 tons (-7%) and China 8,300 tons, representing a significant decrease of 58%. Chile imported 7,700 tons (equal to 2025), while Singapore reached 5,500 tons (-16%). Furthermore, 3,700 tons went to Uruguay (+1%), 3,400 tons to Ivory Coast (+3%), and 3,000 tons to Mexico, which showed the strongest relative growth at 133%. Argentina closed the top ten with 2,800 tons (-37%). Santa Catarina largest exporting state Within Brazil, Santa Catarina remained the most important exporting state, with 56,500 tons, although this represented a decrease of 2.3%. Rio Grande do Sul achieved strong growth to 29,000 tons (+34.4%), followed by Paraná with 17,000 tons (+29.1%). Mato Grosso shipped 3,600 tons (+7.5%), while Minas Gerais reached 3,000 tons, a decrease of 11.8%.
