EU sees need to protect internal sugar market

Good yields can have a downside for producers. This is somewhat the case in the European sugar market. The beet area has shrunk by about 8% in the EU for the 2025 cultivation year, but sugar production has not dropped as sharply. There is indeed an oversupply of sugar. This issue is not only present in Europe when we look at the developments in the futures markets of London and New York.
