It is a push and pull on the Dutch piglet market

The piglet market is in troubled waters. The drop in demand from Spain continues for now, while sales on the domestic market are complicated by the sharply decreased pig prices last week. The resistance from meat pig producers is high and the willingness to place orders is not so strong. In other years, the piglet price could pick up a rising trend again during this time of year, but that is not the case for 2026 for now. There are too many piglets in relation to the demand. Due to the battering of pig prices last week, the already fragile trust of meat pig producers has further eroded. Farmers are applying a lot of pressure to lower piglet prices. The export demand also cannot get the market going. Sales to Spain are not completely at a standstill, but the prices are marginal and are roughly between €32 and €35 per piglet, it is said. In week 1, 23,923 Dutch piglets went to Spain. This number is likely between 30,000 and 40,000 for this week. There is also no demand for Dutch piglets from Germany, traders indicate. The views on the Dutch piglet price are varied this week and range from moderate declines to a strong reduction. Based on the submissions, the DCA BestPigletPrice drops by €3.50 to €31.50 per piglet. This is the lowest level since early 2022. DCA Exchange Price Mutation After the sharp corrections last week, no further declines are expected in the pig market. Thus, the DCA Price Mutation remains unchanged this week. In the background, price pressure still simmers, but it probably does not reflect in the quotes. The market needs positive impulses. Only an increase in consumption or export can improve the mood in Europe. The meat supply is abundant, especially from Germany, Denmark, and Spain. There are no significant surpluses in the supply of pigs in the Netherlands. Some traders do have a few trucks left, but this is not problematic.
