Van Rooi Meat takes over Van Loon Group

Big news in the Dutch meat sector, as Van Loon Group is being taken over by Van Rooi Meat. One Brabant meat company is merging into the other, although both companies will continue to operate under their own banner in the future. The deal still needs to be approved by the competition authorities. The deal is striking, but not illogical. In terms of revenue, both companies do not differ much, but their profiles do. Van Rooi Meat reported a revenue of €990 million for 2025. The revenue of Van Loon Group rose to €1.12 billion in the same year. Van Rooi has 2,400 people on the payroll, while Van Loon Group has 2,500. Van Rooi is active as a slaughtering party in pigs and cattle in the global market for meat. Van Loon Group does not slaughter animals itself and has mainly developed in recent years as a meal producer, primarily focusing on sales in Northwestern Europe. Impulse for a new generation As Van Rooi, we have taken the initiative to take over the activities of Van Loon Group, said Marc and Addy van Rooi in a joint statement. With the acquisition, they see opportunities for more synergy in the meat supply chain. Additionally, they claim that the takeover is an impulse for the next generation within Van Rooi, who are already active in the company. Both companies share the vision of ensuring high-quality and affordable food as chain directors. Erik van Loon indicates that there is no succession within the family. To ensure continuity, it has been decided to sell the company to a party in whom he has confidence. At Van Rooi, we have found a good steward for our company. He will remain involved with the company as a member of the Supervisory Board. More stable foundation The transaction is expected to be completed by mid-2026, pending approval from the Authority for Consumers and Markets. The acquisition amount is not mentioned. The takeover cannot be viewed separately from the challenges both companies are facing, given the decline of the Dutch livestock population. With the activities of Van Loon Group included, Van Rooi gains a more stable foundation for the business, making it less dependent on the fluctuations of the global market. The management of the combined company will consist of CEO Hans Roelofs, Marc van Rooi, and Robert van Ballegooijen. Marc van Rooi will continue to be responsible for Van Rooi and Robert van Ballegooijen for Van Loon Group.
