Christmas spirit is hard to find in the potato market

In the potato market Christmas spirit is hard to find. It remains a sad situation in this market. The buyers from the fries industry have nothing to do for now. A few cars here and there to adjust the factories' planning again. That's all there is, especially since production will stop after the end of next week. For now, buyers in the Netherlands also don't have to worry about contracting potatoes from the 2026 harvest. That will come in January, they say. This year, there is plenty of time for a ski vacation during the Christmas period. Is nothing happening then? That's not entirely true either. Last week, the French RNM suddenly came up with a quotation for Fontane for the first time this season. This quotation amounts to €30 per tonne and is clearly above the quotations in neighboring countries for this variety. In a clarification, some purchases of sorted products above 50 millimeters are mentioned. Situation not different than elsewhere According to buyers, however, the situation in France is not different than elsewhere. There are too many potatoes, especially in France. Where the area has increased the most this year, large quantities continue to hover over the market. That hasn't changed. Nevertheless, there has been a change in the potato index of the futures market in Leipzig. The indicative cash settlement rises this week by 20 cents to €2.70 per 100 kilograms. Meanwhile, price levels in Germany and the Netherlands have actually decreased slightly. The pricing in France suddenly comes around the corner, which causes the European Potato Price Index EPP to rise this week. The contribution to the index from France rises this week by €1.50 to €3.30 per 100 kilograms. With this, France suddenly has the highest price level in Northwest Europe. The prices in the Netherlands and Germany fluctuate around €3 per 100 kilograms this week. Belgium is in the very last wagon with only €1.68 per 100 kilograms, lagging far behind the rest. Belgapom unchanged Belgapom keeps the price unchanged on Friday, December 12, at €1.50 per 100 kilograms of free Fontanes. It is now the ninth consecutive week that this extremely low price has been established in the Belgian trade and processing quotation committee. There also seems to be no movement expected before the year-end. Reka-Rheinland does not do much differently. There, too, Fontane remains at €1.50 per 100 kilograms. Innovator noted a while ago in Germany €4 per 100 kilograms, but in recent weeks, it has not exceeded €3 per 100 kilograms. Agria is still doing the best in the game with €7 per 100 kilograms.
