Dairy prices continue to fall at the last GDT of 2025

The last GDT of this year again ended in the negative, just like the 8 previous dairy auctions. The index ended with a decrease of 4.4%. Almost all sold products recorded a price decrease. Exceptions were mozzarella and lactose. These products achieved higher prices. The consequence of this last GDT of 2025 is that the average price level has now reached its lowest point in 2 years. This is the result of continued strong milk supply in the major production areas of the world. Although the index as a whole has made a significant dive downward, not all dairy products have been equally affected by the developments in the market. Butter and also AMF remain relatively well-priced, while mozzarella is on a slight recovery. It is noteworthy that lactose is again gaining attention. The butter price deserves extra attention. Just like in the EU, the butter price on the GDT has also fallen, but relatively speaking, clearly less than in the EU. Where New Zealand butter was clearly cheaper than European product this summer, now New Zealand butter is actually more expensive. Expressed in euros, there is a difference of €280 per ton. American butter, on the other hand, has continued to decrease in price and is now about €1,000 per ton below the European product and nearly €1,300 below the New Zealand level. However, American butter has somewhat different specifications and is generally of a different quality.
