Modest growth in Canada’s dairy trade

Canadian dairy exports showed a modest year-to-date increase as of August, rising by 0.85%, equivalent to 4.8 million kilo in liquid milk equivalent (LME).Performance varied across product categories. Whey powder, WPI/WPC 80%, and cream achieved particularly strong results, while modified whey, butter, and condensed milk experienced significant declines. By August, total import volumes had increased by 10.09% year-to-date, reaching approximately 81 million kilo in LME. This sustained expansion reflects a generally favorable trade environment. One factor contributing to strong import activity may be the decline in domestic milk production, which fell by 1.66% year-to-date, or about 108 million kilo.
