Demand for pigs is picking up again

The demand for pigs is coming back as slaughterhouses have restored their margins. Nevertheless, a stable price pattern is currently the highest achievable in the market. The DCA Market price thus continues to move sideways. The autumn storm has calmed down, as evidenced by the unchanged prices this week. This aligns with the seasonal pattern in the market, where (large) price declines have often been the case. This is usually followed by a period of stability. In the second half of October and November, prices often do not budge. This scenario also looms over the market this year. Across Europe, there are more than enough pigs to keep the slaughterhooks filled. In Denmark and Spain, but also in Germany. There, over the last few weeks, more than 740,000 pigs have been slaughtered in busy slaughter weeks, which is slightly higher than in previous years. Seasonally, the supply will continue to rise in the coming weeks. In the Netherlands, the supply is in line with the demand. The demand for pigs is described by traders as good. Presumably, the average slaughter weight will continue to increase in the coming weeks to above 100 kilos. Pigs are not light this year, which means that a tight supply is not immediately in sight. DCA Market price There is not much discussion this week about the direction of the DCA Market price 2.0. The price for slaughtered pigs remains the same at €1.62 per kilo. The price of live pigs remains at €1.25 per kilo.
