Belgian LDA cuts milk price for September

The Belgian dairy cooperative Laiterie des Ardennes (LDA) is cutting the milk price for September. The price at the legal components in Belgium goes down by €4.50 and amounts to €43 per 100 liters. LDA has a tradition of closely following the market. The cooperative does this consistently. Therefore, following the strong price drops in the market, particularly for butter and mozzarella, but also for milk powders, there is a similarly significant reduction in the milk price that is paid out to the members. With actual Belgian fat and protein levels, the milk price for September decreases by €4.62 to €45.49 per 100 liters. This price applies with an annual supply of 1.3 million liters. It is not the case that LDA only started reducing prices this month. The first adjustment of the milk price was last summer. The June milk price was already lower than that of May. Most other processors in Belgium kept their prices the same, as can also be seen in the DCA Milk Price Calculator. Like the Dutch processors, the Belgian processors are not only struggling with low dairy prices but also with a high supply. At LDA, there is on average 10% more milk this year. Other companies do not differ much. This abundance increases the price pressure on the producers and also makes it difficult to process all of the supply.
